This year, why not try something new and combine two delicious holiday favorites in one meal? Roast turkey and ham are a perfect combination for a classic Christmas dinner. The combination of tastes is sure to please any crowd, and the meal comes together quickly. Let’s break down how you can make this festive feast in no time!

Step 1 - Preparing the Turkey

The key to making a good roast turkey is getting it ready before cooking. Start by rinsing your turkey off with cold water and patting it dry. Then, season it liberally with salt and pepper inside and out. You can also add herbs or spices if desired. Finally, rub butter over all surfaces of the bird and place it on a roasting pan or rack.

Step 2 - Cooking the Turkey

Once your turkey is prepped, you’re ready to cook! Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and place your turkey in the oven.

Make sure the breast side is up so that it will cook evenly throughout all parts of the bird. Depending on its size, a whole turkey should take roughly 3-4 hours to cook completely through.

To make sure it’s done properly, insert an instant read thermometer into its thickest part (the thigh). When finished cooking, remove from heat immediately and let cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Step 3 - Preparing Ham & Sauce

While your turkey roasts, prepare your ham by cutting thin slices across its lengthwise direction into cubes or slices about ¼ inch thick (½ cm).

Place these slices into a large saucepan with enough water just enough to cover them; bring them to a boil over medium-high heat until they are cooked through (about 8 minutes).

Once cooked through remove from heat and strain off extra liquid then set aside for later use. Next, create a simple sauce by combining equal parts of honey mustard or Dijon mustard with melted butter- mix until blended well then set some aside for later use as well. Using the remaining sauce, cover the Ham with it and throw it in the oven for 10 minutes.

Step 4 - Plating up

Start by placing half of your roasted turkey onto each plate followed by some ham cubes/slices on top of each piece; drizzle each plate with some of your honey mustard/butter sauce before serving hot! Enjoy!
